In 1845 an enterprising Philadelphia publisher decides to send a beautiful female journalist, disguised as a schoolteacher, to the Mormon city of Nauvoo on the Mississippi River. He hopes she will lure the Mormon polygamistsout of hiding and get the real story that has evaded male journalists too long.
