Moreover, the Catalan crisis is, without a doubt, the most serious crisis that Spain has undergone since the 1936-39 civil war. The terrorist group ETA, despite spawning more than 800 casualties, never came this close to representing a such a threat to Spain. It is a problem that will continue to be present unless it is tackled with all the weapons at the disposal of a state ruled by law, a category into which Spain falls.
